Part 2B

From that day on, Prince Juraish and Lubaina were always together. Even when going hunting, they went together and did almost everything together; they became deeply attached to one another.
Old Halizu felt an immense joy in his heart when he saw the kind of relationship blossoming between Juraish and Lubaina. Thus, Old Halizu, Prince Juraish, and Lubaina continued to live within the laws of the forest.
As for the matter of King Ayyub, the father of Prince Juraish—when the soldiers he had ordered to look after the prince returned without him, he became deeply anxious. He quickly asked the commander of the soldiers, "O Hasib! Where did you leave the prince? I see he is not with you, yet I know that whenever you go hunting together, you always return together, and the prince always comes to me first before going anywhere else."
When the commander of the soldiers, named Hasib ibn Kayyib, heard King Ayyub's words, he burst into tears and bowed his head low. Through his tears, Hasib ibn Kayyib recounted to King Ayyub what had happened to the prince when they went hunting. "O my leader, right before our eyes, the prince fell into a massive pit located behind the town."
When King Ayyub heard what Hasib said, he collapsed and fell to the ground. The servants rushed to him, lifted him up, and placed him back onto the royal throne. His entire body had gone weak, and tears began to roll down his cheeks. The Vizier (Prime Minister) looked at the King and said, "O my leader, give me permission right now to assemble great warriors to plunge into the pit to search for the prince. I am certain he is alive."
King Ayyub turned and looked at the Vizier upon hearing his words. Forcing a brave smile, he said, "O my Vizier, know that years ago, I informed you all that glad tidings were given to me that I would have a child, and the son I would give birth to would travel the world and become famous across the globe upon the path of spreading the religion of Islam. I am certain that this journey he has taken is the very journey I was told he would make. Therefore, between us and him now, we can only pray for him that the Lord of Islam protects him from his enemies and returns him home safely."
Having finished speaking, King Ayyub stood up and went into the inner palace. King Ayyub went straight to Prince Juraish’s mother, Taufidatu, and informed her of everything that had happened. This was what transpired in the city of Yemen when the news of Prince Juraish’s disappearance reached his parents.
..
Meanwhile, the situation with Old Halizu, Prince Juraish, and Lubaina continued. They lived in happiness, joy, and mutual love. The young girl, Lubaina, regarded Prince Juraish as her elder brother, and likewise, Juraish regarded her as his younger sister; he did not want to see anything harm her in the slightest.
They would go hunting together and return together; everything was done in unison. In this manner, they eventually grew up. One day, Prince Juraish and Lubaina prepared themselves and went out to hunt, leaving Old Halizu behind at their campsite as was their custom. Since old age had caught up with Old Halizu, they relieved him from traveling anywhere.
Juraish and Lubaina traveled for ten hours, but they didn't catch sight of so much as a rabbit. This surprised them greatly because, in all their lives in that forest, they had never spent more than three hours without encountering some kind of animal. Yet today, they hadn't even come across a bird.
Lubaina looked at Juraish and said, "O my brother, are you not surprised by what has happened to us today?"
Prince Juraish replied, "I am very surprised, my sister. And look, the sun is about to set. You see that we must turn back and return to camp now..."
Before he could finish speaking, they heard the roaring of a lion ahead of them. Juraish and Lubaina looked ahead toward where the roaring was coming from. There was nothing there except a thick cluster of tall grass. Lubaina drew an arrow from her quiver and notched it against her bow, waiting to see whatever was inside the thicket of grass. Beside her, Juraish also drew his long sword from its sheath, standing in total readiness for a confrontation.
The lion's roaring continued to draw closer. The tall grass began to move and sway. Seeing this, Lubaina shot an arrow into the thicket of grass. Immediately, the roaring went dead silent, and the grass stopped moving. Lubaina and Juraish advanced toward the thicket, certain that whatever was inside had been killed. But just as they reached the front of the grass, suddenly a massive lion burst out like a flash from within the foliage.
The lion stood behind them. They turned around, scanning the lion carefully. Juraish nodded his head in awe because, in all his time hunting, he had never encountered a colossal lion like this one. The lion roared, shook its mane, and then charged at full speed toward Juraish and his companion.
While the lion was still at a distance, Lubaina rained arrows upon it, but surprisingly, even when the arrows successfully struck its body, they broke and fell to the side. When there were barely three paces left between the lion and Juraish, Juraish leaped into the air, aiming a vicious slash at the lion's neck with the intention of severing its head.
When Juraish's sword struck the lion's body, a sound rang out—the sound of metal clashing against metal. In astonishment, Juraish continued to slash and stab at the lion, but it was like striking stone. After a short period of this fierce struggle, the lion caught Juraish off guard and gashed his thigh with its claws. Juraish winced but continued to strike the lion with his sword.
As for the young woman Lubaina, from the moment the battle began between her brother and the enraged lion, she stood to the side raining arrows upon the beast. As soon as the arrows touched the lion's body, they fell to the ground broken.
In a fit of rage, Juraish cast his sword aside, looked at the lion, and gestured with his hand for it to come on. The lion roared and leaped with its jaws wide open. Seeing this, Juraish also leaped and intercepted the lion. When the lion and Juraish collided, they fell to the ground rolling. Juraish managed to seize the lion's throat, squeezing it with all his might. The lion thrashed its legs until it finally became a corpse, whereupon Juraish released its throat. He pushed the dead lion aside, stood up, and panted for breath.
Lubaina rushed to him. When she saw his left thigh bleeding, she pulled out a bundle of medicine, sprinkled it on the wounded area, tore a piece from the edge of her clothing, and bound the wound for him.
Juraish smiled, looked at Lubaina, and said, "Thank you, my sister, for the immense care you always give me."
Hearing this, Lubaina looked up at him and said, "It is my duty to care for you, considering I have no other brother or guardian besides you. If I don't care for you, who else should I give my care to?"
The warrior Juraish lifted the dead lion onto his shoulders, and they headed back to their campsite, chatting happily along the way.

As soon as they arrived at the camp, Juraish dumped the lion's corpse at the entrance of their small hut. He looked at Lubaina and told her, "Go inside and check if Abba (Father) is there; you know how he loves to wander."
Lubaina stepped inside the hut. Upon entering, she came face to face with Old Halizu lying prostrate, with blood pouring from his mouth, his entire body motionless. Seeing this, Lubaina let out a scream and rushed toward where the old man lay.
.
Well, the old man has indeed reached his final moments.
But before that, it's Shuraih Usman, nickname 99%

Part 2C

Prince Juraish ran into the hut at full speed and found Old Halizu lying prostrate with blood pouring from his mouth. Beside him, Lubaina held up his head, shedding tears.
Old Halizu raised his head with great difficulty, looked at Prince Juraish, and gestured with his hand for him to come closer. In that instant, tears welled up in Juraish's eyes. He approached the old man, knelt, and asked, "What happened to you, Abba?"
The old man took Juraish's hand and said, "O my children, know that I do not think I will last many more days in this world, for I feel in my body that my time has come. Because of this, I will tell you my story." Old Halizu paused his speech as a violent cough overcame him. Lubaina fetched her water container and pressed it to the old man's mouth.
The old man groaned after swallowing the water. He looked at Lubaina and said, "O my daughter Lubaina, today I will reveal the history of your life. You have long asked me who your parents are, but I have never told you. Your father was a King in the land of Maharbassadar. The land of Maharbassadar is a country comprised of people of diverse religions and cultures; in that land, everyone has the freedom to practice whatever religion they choose."
"Your father, King Marhus, was a powerful sorcerer and a just king who never discriminated between the poor and the wealthy. King Marhus had one wedded wife named Nuzaira. It took them twenty years before Nuzaira conceived a child."
"The joy felt by King Marhus was boundless. At all times, he was by Nuzaira’s side, nurturing her pregnancy. He stopped attending the royal court entirely. His Vizier, named Ibbahu, was the one running the affairs of the court."
"Vizier Ibbahu was secretly King Marhus's greatest enemy, though outwardly he feigned being his greatest lover. He had no desire other than to see the end of King Marhus so he could inherit the throne. More than once or twice, he sent thousands of massive troops to destroy King Marhus, but they failed because King Marhus was a legendary warrior who crushed men, and a grand sorcerer feared by all the wizards of the world."
"He was filled with no small amount of bitterness when he received the news that the King's wife was pregnant; he bit his lip severely. While Vizier Ibbahu ibn Kalzim was plotting to destroy King Marhus, he heard of a powerful wizard named Sham'una who lived outside the city."
"In the dead of night, Vizier Ibbahu dressed like a merchant, left the city of Maharbassadar, and headed into the forest where the grand wizard Sham'una resided. Wizard Sham'una lived atop a high mountain outside the city of Maharbassadar."
"When Vizier Ibbahu stated his desire to eliminate King Marhus to Wizard Sham'una, Wizard Sham'una burst into a maniacal laughter. The entire rocky cave echoed with the unpleasant sound of the wizard's laughter. After laughing his fill, he fell silent, looked at Vizier Ibbahu, and said, 'O Vizier of the city of Maharbassadar, know that you will never triumph over King Marhus, because he is no ordinary sorcerer. The great wizards and sorcerers of the world fear him because of the strength of his magic.'"
"When Vizier Ibbahu heard this, he softened his voice and said, 'O Wizard of the World, know that I was informed that you are a great sorcerer, and you alone know the secret and vulnerability of King Marhus. That is why I came to you. If you help me triumph over King Marhus, I will divide the land of Maharbassadar in two and give you half.'"
"Wizard Sham'una took a deep breath and said, 'Well, there is one way, but it is extremely dangerous, because if a mistake is made, all of us will perish.'"
"With eagerness, Vizier Akiyanu [Note: Author inconsistently changes name here to Akiyanu] said, 'What way is that, O great wizard?'"
"Wizard Sham'una, who was crouching with crossed legs, looked at Vizier Akiyanu, who stared wide-eyed and listened intently, ears strained."
"He said, 'King Marhus is an invincible sorcerer, an unmatched titan in the arena of magic. Many great sorcerers fear him, and to this day, no sorcerer or king has discovered his vulnerability except me. King Marhus inherited his magic from his father, and his father inherited it from King Marhus's grandfather. According to the research I conducted in my magical seclusion, I discovered that in the entire expanse of the world, there is no magic as powerful as King Marhus's. If you want to prevail over King Marhus, you must separate him from the silver ring worn on his left hand. For that ring is the repository of his magic; if he does not have the ring with him, there is nothing he can achieve regarding sorcery.'"
"As soon as Wizard Sham'una finished saying this, he vanished completely, as if he had never existed."
"Vizier Ibbahu stood up and left Wizard Sham'una's cave. Emerging outside, he mounted his horse, his face full of joy, seeing that his dream of many years was about to be fulfilled."
"The next day, Vizier Ibbahu gathered his inner circle, most of whom were councilors of King Marhus who despised his rule because of the love and assistance he granted the poor, and his suppression of the wealthy merchants. After Vizier Ibbahu told them of his intention to overthrow King Marhus's rule, they all gave him their support and offered advice on how to separate King Marhus from the ring on his hand."
"At that time, when King Marhus had stopped appearing at court and was always at home with his wife Nuzaira nurturing her pregnancy, Vizier Ibbahu found the opportunity to execute his plan to separate King Marhus from his magical ring."
"When the night was deeply divided and footsteps had ceased—you could hear nothing in the city of Maharbassadar except the cries of small insects and the barking of dogs—Vizier Ibbahu dressed like an expert thief, wearing black clothes. He covered his face with a turban so that nothing could be seen except his eyes."
"Vizier Ibbahu went straight to King Marhus's house. Upon arriving, he scaled the wall of the house expertly. There were massive numbers of soldiers moving back and forth inside the house. When Vizier Ibbahu dropped into King Marhus's house, he followed an alleyway where he assumed there would be no guards."
"He walked a very long distance before reaching the grand parlor of the palace. Vizier Ibbahu stood at the doorway leading to the grand parlor, pulled out a magical amulet from his pocket, and hung it around his neck."
"As soon as he hung it, he pushed into the parlor where he found hundreds of soldiers and servants moving about. What would surprise a person was the lack of concern or attention from the soldiers when Vizier Ibbahu ibn Kalzim entered the parlor. However, what you, the reader, do not know is that this amulet the Vizier put on was what blinded the hundreds of soldiers from seeing him."
"Thus, Vizier Ibbahu threaded his way through the soldiers, but they could not see him, until he reached the bedchamber of King Marhus. With arrogance and power, Vizier Ibbahu forced his way into the bedchamber, where he found King Marhus and his wife Nuzaira lying on a wide mattress, fast asleep. Nuzaira was beside King Marhus, his right hand resting on her stomach."
"Vizier Ibbahu drew close to the mattress they lay on, his heart pounding violently because the sight of King Marhus terrified him deeply. In fear, he pulled out a packet of sleeping powder from his trousers' pocket and held it to King Marhus's nose for him to inhale. When King Marhus inhaled the powder, his sleep deepened."
"Seeing this, Vizier Ibbahu fixed his eyes on King Marhus's hand, which bore the silver ring. The ring gleamed like the moon. Eagerly, the Vizier took the King's hand and began trying to slide the ring off, but the ring refused to budge. He tried every trick and skill to remove the ring from King Marhus's hand, but it was impossible."
"Seeing that the operation was taking too long and morning was approaching, he decided to sever the finger bearing the ring. He drew his sword with the intention of cutting the hand, when suddenly Wizard Sham'una appeared in the room, shouting a warning at him. Terrified, Vizier Ibbahu stepped back, thinking King Marhus had awoken. When he saw it was Wizard Sham'una, he was filled with surprise."
"Immediately, Wizard Sham'una began reciting magical incantations which caused darkness to consume the room. The darkness lasted for a long time, until the Vizier began to fear that in searching for an arrow, they might catch a disease. Therefore, he said to Wizard Sham'una, 'O Wizard of the World, do not let these sorceries of yours awaken this monster, for if he wakes up, without a doubt he will destroy both you and me.' Wizard Sham'una continued reciting his talismans, whose meaning he alone knew, and gradually, bit by bit, the darkness cleared away."
"And there it was—the silver ring from the King's hand was floating in the air. The Vizier snatched the ring swiftly. Filled with joy, he placed the ring on his left pinky finger."
"As soon as the Vizier placed the ring on his hand, a strange power visited his body. Instantly, his limbs began to swell and morph. His forearms, which had been small like a child's, filled out heavily and became massive. The clothes he wore began to rip apart because of how his body expanded."
"Within a short moment, Vizier Ibbahu's appearance transformed into that of the WARRIOR, FATHER OF WARRIORS—hero of heroes, champion of champions. No matter how full of bravery a person was, if they encountered Vizier Ibbahu in this form, they would be terrified."
"With great surprise, Vizier Ibbahu looked at his body and then looked at Wizard Sham'una, bursting into laughter. Wizard Sham'una smiled at the success and said, 'Welcome to this victory, O Vizier Ibbahu. I assure you that now, in the entire expanse of the world, there is no warrior who equals you in arm strength, weapon handling, endurance, and persistence. Know that you have now become the WARRIOR, FATHER OF WARRIORS, terror of champions, angel of heroes. You now possess five hundred thousand magical secrets that no other sorcerer possesses in the world. My hope is that you keep your promise regarding our agreement.'"
"As soon as Wizard Sham'una finished speaking, the Vizier smiled and said, 'Soon you will find me fulfilling my promise to you, but before that, shall I not first kill this cursed king?' No sooner had the Vizier finished speaking than he raised his sword and severed King Marhus's head, sending it flying high as if thrown from a catapult. The stump of the neck continued to gush blood like a bursting river..."
"Just as the Vizier turned with the intention of leaving the room, Wizard Sham'una said, 'O King of Kings, hero of heroes, why are you sweeping the floor but leaving dust behind?'"
"Confused, the Vizier said, 'I do not understand this statement of yours. Explain it to me in words I can understand.'"
"Wizard Sham'una said, 'You have killed King Marhus, but you have left his wife, even though you are aware she is carrying a pregnancy. Do you not think that what she gives birth to in the future could become a thorn in your side and a threat to your rule?'"
"When the Vizier heard this, he turned back with the intention of destroying Nuzaira. As he raised his sword to decapitate her, the palace guards burst into the room. Seeing what Vizier Ibbahu was attempting to do, the guards charged like enraged bulls, letting out a loud battle cry."
"The sound of their shouting awakened Princess Nuzaira from her deep sleep. Upon waking, she immediately beheld the headless torso of her husband, King Marhus, with blood gushing from the neck stump. Seeing this, she screamed loudly, throwing herself over King Marhus's torso. When the King's guards attacked Vizier Ibbahu, he simply raised his hand and pointed at them; instantly, they caught fire, burning to ashes before you could count a penny."
"Princess Nuzaira, seeing this, stood up and fled the bedchamber. The Vizier let out a laugh that caused a minor earthquake, and then pursued Princess Nuzaira. Simultaneously, the palace guards swarmed the Vizier, swords in hand. However, any guard who managed to strike or stab the Vizier's body—instead of the weapon injuring Vizier Ibbahu—fire would consume the guard and reduce him to ashes."

Part 2D

Old Halizu coughed a second time and then continued telling his story to Prince Juraish and Lubaina:
"As for Princess Nuzaira, once she successfully escaped the palace, she ran without stopping until she reached the city's grand market. At that time, I had come out of my house to fix a water drainage pipe attached to my house. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I saw Princess Nuzaira running toward me, desperate for help."
"With one look, I recognized her. In submission, I knelt and greeted her, then brought her inside the house, where I placed her with my wife. By God's grace, labor pains gripped Nuzaira, and my wife began to help her deliver. I went out to the front door of my house, praying to the Lord of Islam to grant her a safe delivery."
"While I was praying, a black smoke appeared in front of me. Slowly, the black smoke morphed into the shape of Vizier Ibbahu. He looked at me, let out an evil laugh, and then hardened his face completely—you would think he wasn't the same person who had just finished laughing a moment ago."
"'O you short-lived old man, you have certainly thrown away your own life by helping Princess Nuzaira!'"

2. Summary

This Hausa fantasy narrative follows two distinct timelines/generations that are intertwined:

  • The Present Generation: Prince Juraish (who fell into a massive pit in Yemen, matching a prophecy that he would wander the world to spread Islam) lives in a dense forest with a young woman named Lubaina and an old caretaker named Halizu. Juraish and Lubaina grow up close as siblings. During a grueling 10-hour hunting trip, they kill a monstrous, magically resilient lion after a fierce battle in which Juraish is wounded. Returning to camp, they find Old Halizu dying and coughing up blood.
  • The Past Generation (The Backstory): On his deathbed, Old Halizu reveals Lubaina's true identity. She is the secret princess of the kingdom of Maharbassadar. Her father, King Marhus, was a powerful, just sorcerer-king. He was betrayed by his treacherous Vizier, Ibbahu.
  • The Betrayal: Ibbahu, guided by an evil wizard named Sham'una, uses an invisibility amulet and sleeping powder to sneak into the King's chambers and steal his magical silver ring, which holds the source of the king's power. Upon putting it on, Ibbahu transforms into a physically massive, invincible tyrant known as "Sadauki Uban Sadaukai" (The Warrior, Father of Warriors). Ibbahu brutally murders the King.
  • The Escape: The pregnant Queen Nuzaira flees the burning guards and palace. She is taken in by Old Halizu (who was a citizen of that kingdom). As the Queen goes into labor inside Halizu's house to give birth to Lubaina, the terrifying, super-powered Vizier Ibbahu tracks her down, confronting Halizu at his doorstep.
