Continuation of the Story
Malan Usman is Alhaji Bashir's biological younger brother from the same mother and father. Bashir loves his younger brother dearly. Because it had been a long time since his wife, Hajiya Balkisu, gave birth, as children did not come early, they sought both Western and traditional medical treatments. However, God did not grant it, and they eventually resigned themselves to fate and left matters in Allah’s hands.
That was that. 💫💫💫💫💫💫
Days later, while traveling, Hajiya Balkisu began feeling unwell, though she didn’t attribute much importance to it. She brushed it off as a mild bout of malaria, feeling slight headaches and low-grade fevers in the evenings. Eventually, Alhaji Bashir noticed she was sick and told her to get ready so they could go to the hospital. She replied, "Oh, it's just malaria. Let me take some medicine, and I'll feel better." He said, "Alright, but if you feel anything else, let me know." She said, "No problem." He told her, "I'm going out, I'll be back." She prayed for him, and he answered "Ameen" before leaving.
Two days later, seeing that she still had a fever every night, he didn't say anything else until morning, when he insisted she get ready so they could see a doctor. She had no choice, as she was not used to disobeying her husband.
They went to the doctor, and she underwent all the standard tests. The doctor asked them to wait for a moment. Because of the respect Alhaji Bashir commanded, he went into the laboratory himself to check on the results. While they were sitting in the office, the doctor returned, sat down, and said, "Alhaji, congratulations! Madam is pregnant."
Overjoyed, Alhaji Bashir was speechless at first, constantly praising Almighty God. Hajiya Balkisu felt the same, and they rejoiced, thanking God for the blessing He had given them. He rewarded the doctor handsomely before they walked out, escorted by the doctor.

After leaving the hospital, on their way home, she saw a street vendor selling yalo (garden eggs) and dates. She said, "Alhaji, I want to eat your garden eggs and dates." He replied, "Okay, my Hajiya." He parked by the roadside, bought a large quantity of them, returned to the car, and they drove home. Once home, he fussed over her constantly. If she so much as moved, he would ask, "Is it the garden eggs and dates? Are those the only things you're craving, alongside some cold juice?"
That day, Alhaji Bashir did not go to the market. Instead, he called his younger brother, Usman, and told him to oversee everything at the shop along with his assistant. He then informed Usman that Hajiya Balkisu was pregnant.
It was as if he had sent him the angel of death. Usman was unhappy about the news because Alhaji Bashir possessed immense wealth—he couldn't be called a rich man without means, but rather someone comfortably well-off. Usman’s thought was: Since he is my only brother and doesn't have anyone else to inherit his wealth, and since he had no children before, this terrible news meant that, in his view, it wasn't a happy occasion at all.
Alhaji Bashir remained silent on the phone for so long that Usman thought the call had disconnected. He checked his phone and saw he was still on the line. He said, "Hello Usman, are you listening?" Usman replied, "Yes, older brother, I'm listening. It's the network. May Allah make it easy and grant her a safe delivery. When I return, I'll stop by to check on her." Alhaji Bashir said, "She will be fine," and ended the call.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
In the middle of the night, a bout of fever and vomiting hit her all at once. Everything she ate, she threw up, accompanied by fever. Alhaji panicked, not knowing what to do since he wasn't used to this. After she came out of the toilet and sat on the edge of the bed catching her breath, he kept showering her with comforting words.
Sitting there, an idea struck him. He picked up his phone, called the doctor, and explained what was happening. The doctor reassured him, explaining that it was nothing to worry about—it was just pregnancy sickness (laulayi). Every pregnancy has its own kind of sickness: some experience only vomiting, some only fever, and others both.
After greatly reassuring him, they said their goodbyes. Alhaji went to the fridge in the living room, fetched a cup of fresh milk, brought it back, poured it into a cup, and gave it to her. She drank it. He took the cup, placed it beside the bed, climbed onto the bed, pulled the blanket over them, and they went to sleep.
And I, Oum Amjad, say: Good morning, mother of twins! 👩❤️👩
Page 5
THE NEXT MORNING Hajiya Balkisu woke up feeling strong and well. Alhamdulillahi, she felt better, almost like a completely new person. Dressed up as she usually was, smelling lovely, she headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast before Alhaji woke up. He had gone to the mosque for the Subh prayer and returned to bed afterward, having gotten insufficient sleep the previous night due to the fever she suffered from, which was why he was sleeping in now.
She started by peeling and washing Irish potatoes in a basin, then set it aside. She turned on the gas cooker, placed a frying pan on it, and poured in oil. She took the potatoes, added a tiny pinch of salt, and tossed them so the seasoning would soak in. Once the oil was hot, she poured in the potatoes and began frying them slowly. She moved to the second burner, turned it on, and set a pot of internal organs (kayan ciki) to boil.
She continued frying the potatoes until they were done, scooped them out into a bowl, washed them thoroughly, and put them in a colander. She rinsed a pot, added pepper mix, spices, and seasonings, returned it to the gas, added the internal organs, and covered it. Then she set a pot of water for tea. Gradually, she finished all her chores, gathered everything, and took it to the dining room.
She went back to the bedroom to see if Alhaji had woken up. As she entered, he was coming out of the bathroom. They smiled at each other, and she said, "I was just about to wake you up to take a bath, I've finished preparing breakfast." He exclaimed, "Look at you, you weren't feeling well, and yet you've been working!" She replied, "Oh Alhaji, I felt better, that's why." He said, "Even so, I will tell Baba the gateman to find a housemaid to help you with the chores." She responded, "Alright, may Allah continue to cover our faults." He said, "Ameen, mother of twins!"
She laughed and said, "Oh Alhaji, for things whose outcomes are unknown..." He interrupted, "As for me, whatever it is, I pray Allah gives us a blessed one." She said, "Ameen." He continued dressing while she helped him until he was finished. They went down to the dining room to have breakfast.
While eating, they heard a knock. Alhaji answered, and someone entered. It was Usman, who said, "Wallahi, older brother, it's me. Yesterday I couldn't make it to check on how Hajiya was feeling and to celebrate our good news. Some urgent business came up." Alhaji replied, "No problem, she feels better, Alhamdulillahi." Usman said, "Masha Allah." They exchanged greetings as brothers, and Usman greeted Hajiya Balkisu, asking after her health and congratulating her, praying Allah makes it easy, even though the pregnancy was still early. She answered, "Ameen," and asked after his family and children. He replied, "Alhamdulillahi, they send their greetings, they will come visit." She said, "May Allah bring them safely." They responded with "Ameen."
She told him to sit down and have breakfast, but he declined, saying, "Wallahi Alhamdulillahi, I ate at home, I'm just passing by on my way to the market." Alhaji Bashir said, "Wait for me so we can go together, I'm done too." Usman agreed, and they sat until they left. She told them to return safely, and they answered with "Ameen." 🤲
💫💫💫💫💫💫
GRA is a neighborhood for the ultra-wealthy, where you will hardly find any poor person living, as it is not their kind of place—it is for the elite. It was as quiet as if nobody lived there.
I caught sight of a house that had no equal in the whole neighborhood, as it was grander than all the others. Although I didn't step inside, I stopped at the front gate. As I stood there, a luxurious car approached the house. Upon reaching it, it honked, and the gate opened wide. My breath nearly stopped, but I didn't let that happen because I wanted to capture the story for you. I stood there until the gateman was about to close the gate, and quickly slipped inside unnoticed so I wouldn't be chased away and fail to bring you the story.
Inside was an earthly paradise; the house looked like it wasn't even in Nigeria due to its extreme magnificence. Dear reader, imagine its beauty for yourself, because if I were to describe its splendor, we would stay up all night and not finish.
This house belonged to Alhaji Mansur, who had one wife and three children: two boys and a girl. The wife's name was Hajiya Maryam, and the children were: the eldest son, Anwar, who was currently studying abroad; a daughter named Fatima (whom they called Zarah), who attended secondary school; and the lastborn, Miswar. Now you know what this house looks like and who lives inside it.
Page 6
Alhaji Mansur was a prominent, well-known businessman in the city of Zaria and a close friend of Alhaji Bashir. They did business together both within Nigeria and internationally. Alhaji Mansur was wealthier than Alhaji Bashir, but despite that, they conducted their business in trust and mutual respect.
Alhaji Mansur had just returned from a trip with his driver in the luxury car that entered the compound. The driver parked in the parking space, stepped out, came to his employer's side, opened the door, and greeted the household staff. Alhaji Mansur didn't act like he was above ordinary people; despite being wealthy, he treated everyone as family.
Let's step inside the house and see. A woman was seated on a two-seater sofa in the living room. Wow, Masha Allah! The living room was exquisitely decorated, filled with a soothing, soul-refreshing fragrance and cool air blowing from modern air conditioners. Let's just say Masha Allah. She was sitting with her children, watching Arewa 24 broadcasting a show called Dadin Kowa.
Suddenly, they heard a knock. Hajiya Maryam said, "Zarah, check who it is." Zarah replied, "Okay, mummy." She stood up and walked to the door. Upon opening it, she saw it was their Dady! She turned back with a smile and said, "Mummy, it's Dady who has returned!"
Miswar, who was lying down near her, jumped up instantly, ran over to Zarah, and asked, "Auntie Zarah, really?" Zarah replied, "Yes, really!" They ran up to him, shouting, "Oyoyo Dady!" Dady was laughing, asking about school. They replied that they were fine.
Hajiya Maryam said, "Zarah, let him come in." Dady said, "Hajiya, leave them, we haven't seen each other in days!" They were rejoicing. She said, "Now come and take a bath, eat food, and we can chat at length—me included." He joked, "Hajiya, are you jealous of the children?" They all laughed, and Miswar said, "Dady, mummy is jealous!" Mummy replied, "Well, if I am, he is my husband!" Alhaji Mansur said, "Alright then, let me take a bath and come back so we can chat more." They said, "Okay, Dady." He walked away, and mummy followed him, leaving Zarah and Miswar in the living room.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
LET'S VISIT ALHAJI BASHIR'S HOUSE Hajiya Balkisu was sitting with another woman, chatting. By all indications, she was a close friend, and the conversation was very pleasant. In front of them were trays of fruits that they were eating, because ever since she was told she was pregnant, she couldn't eat regular food—only fruits and cold items.
They chatted happily and joyfully. Her friend congratulated her on the blessing Allah had given her and gave her advice regarding her health and the pregnancy. They chatted until 3:00 PM, when her friend said, "Hajiya Balkisu, I'm heading home, you'll hear from me." Balkisu protested, "So soon, Halima? Stay a bit longer." Halima replied, "No wallahi, I need to go now, I want to stop by somewhere." Balkisu said, "Alright, thank you, may Allah protect you." She walked her to the gate, and then returned inside the house.
(Please forgive the delay, this is the first part) 🥰
Page 7
NINE MONTHS LATER Hajiya Balkisu gave birth safely, and Allah blessed her with TWINS—beautiful baby girls, fair-complexioned like porcelain, Masha Allah. They took after their parents, as they were nothing short of gorgeous.
On the naming ceremony day, grand celebrations took place with lavish spending as if there was no tomorrow. People ate, drank, and goods were distributed. Off to the side, I spotted a fan club for the twins (A Gift from Allah), drinking juice and celebrating the naming ceremony in style!
Days later, I peeked into Alhaji Bashir's house. He was sitting with his wife and their growing children, who were playing while their parents laughed. Balkisu remarked, "Wallahi Alhaji, these children amaze me." He asked, "How so, my Hajiya?" She replied, "They are so smart. They know when you are around, they don't cry at all. But the moment you step out, that's it—they start crying continuously. Nothing I do can calm them down until they fall asleep, even when Inna Mairo takes them and tries to soothe them. No, they only stop crying for their father." He said, "Well, you know how children are, they know their father." She agreed, "Is that so?" He answered, "Yes, it is."
💫💫💫💫💫💫
Years later, I spotted two young girls running around inside a living room. A woman dressed in gorgeous attire was on the phone, deeply engrossed in her conversation. Suddenly, hearing the children crying, she quickly told the person on the phone goodbye, stood up, and scolded them: "Umaisha and Unaisha, don't you listen? I said stop running around like that, didn't you hear me?" She moved closer to them and asked what happened. The older one answered, "Ammi, it's Unaisha who fell, and I bumped into the chair." Ammi said, "Shh, be quiet now, children of their father!" She comforted them until they calmed down, gave them chocolates to eat, and then headed to the kitchen to prepare lunch before the twins' Dady returned.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
After finishing lunch, she bathed Umaisha and Unaisha, took a bath herself, and they returned to the living room to watch television until 5:00 PM. Then they heard the honk signaling Dady’s return. The girls ran eagerly toward the door. Ammi said, "Just a minute ago you were crying from a fall, and now you won't even wait for him to step inside?"
Mid-sentence, he walked in. She greeted him, "Alhaji, welcome back." He answered warmly, and she added, "It's me and your children." He smiled, "Ah, Hajiya, you know children require patience." Running up to him, the girls hugged him, shouting, "Oyoyo Abba, did you return safely?" He replied, "Very safely, children of Abba!" He held their hands, walked to the living room, sat down, and said, "Sit here, I'll be right back." They answered, "Okay."
He went to freshen up because he was completely exhausted. Afterward, he joined them, they ate together, and he continued chatting with his family.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
After some time, many things happened, including enrolling the twins in school because they were very articulate, speaking nonstop like parrots. They had grown smart—Mashallah!
A trip came up for two close friends—or rather, inseparable soulmates—Alhaji Mansur and Alhaji Bashir, regarding business matters. They traveled safely, but on their way back home, they had a terrible accident. The car carrying Alhaji Bashir's driver and Bashir himself crashed, and right then and there, Allah took their souls.
Alhaji Mansur sustained injuries and lost consciousness. People rushed him to the hospital, while someone found the phone in Bashir's shirt pocket and dialed the last number called to inform his family. They had called Usman before setting off for home, so they informed him of what happened. Bashir's and the driver's bodies were brought home, funeral prayers were held, and they were laid to rest in their final resting places. May Allah have mercy on them. 😭😭😭
Verily, every soul shall taste death.
Alhaji Mansur grieved deeply over the death of his friend. He took it upon himself to look after Bashir's household, children, their schooling, and everything else. As for Usman, he only wanted his share of the inheritance, which was given to him. Regarding the children, their mother requested that Alhaji Mansur continue to look after them until they grew up and got married.
Page 8
Life went on. After their father's death, Alhaji Mansur took care of them and their wealth; they lacked nothing in their daily lives. Such is life.
Many suitors came seeking Momy's hand in marriage, but she always refused, saying her focus was raising her children. Marriage was not on her mind since she had lost her true love, her husband, and the father of her children. People eventually gave up and respected her decision.
Umaisha and Unaisha kept growing, becoming increasingly beautiful—Masha Allah. They attended both Western and Islamic schools. Today was the weekend, so there was no Islamic school. After returning from Western school, they told Ammi, "Today we want to visit Daddy's house" (referring to Alhaji Mansur, as that was what they called him). Ammi said, "Alright, get ready, the driver will take you." They happily jumped up to get ready, while she called Alhaji Mansur to let him know she was sending them over, as he was the one who provided the driver to take them to school and outings.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
While she sat, they came downstairs dressed in matching lace outfits—a skirt and blouse of the exact same color, down to their shoes. They approached her and said, "Ammi, we are ready." She said, "Go on, the driver is outside waiting for you, and don't stay out late." They chorused, "We'll be back!" She replied, "Return safely, may Allah protect you. Ameen."
They found the driver waiting in the car at the courtyard, exchanged greetings, got in, and drove off.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
At Alhaji Mansur's house, Zarah was sitting with Miswar. She was chatting on her phone while he played video games and watched TV. Momy walked into the living room on the phone—evidently talking to her eldest son, as I heard her say, "So, son, may Allah bring you back safely." From the other end, he answered, "Ameen, Momy." They ended the call.
She sat down on the sofa, and Zarah asked, "Momy, was that Yaya Anwar?" "Yes, he's returning this week." "Yay, Momy, I'm so happy Yaya is coming back, we missed him!"
💫💫💫💫💫💫
Meanwhile, after leaving their house, Umaisha asked the driver, "We want to stop by the supermarket to buy a few things." He replied, "Okay." They reached the mall, parked, and went inside to browse children's sweets and snacks. Having finished walking around, they went to the cashier to pay for their items.
Page 9
They paid for the items, walked outside, got back into the car, and drove to Alhaji Mansur's house. Arriving at the gate, they honked. The gateman peeked through the small pedestrian gate before opening the main gate, and they drove inside.
The driver parked in the courtyard, and they stepped out. Unaisha said to the driver, "You can leave now, when we are ready to go back we'll call you." He replied, "No problem, Hajiya karama (Young Hajiya)."
The younger girl laughed and said, "I don't like that name, call me Kanwa (Younger sister)." He replied, "Alright, thank you, Kanwata." She said, "You're welcome."
Before moving away, she whispered to Umaisha, "Blood sister, what's wrong with your gaze?" Umaisha replied, "Nothing, I just told him to come back later." "Okay, let's go," they said, heading inside.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
Momy was dressed up, preparing to go out, when she heard their greetings. She exclaimed, "Ah, ah! Daddy's twins are here!" They answered, "Yes, wallahi Momy, it's us! Good afternoon, how is the house?" Momy replied, "Very fine! How are you and Hajiya Balkisu?" They answered, "She is fine, she sends her greetings." Momy said, "I have received them."
Momy's lastborn, Miswar, chimed in, "Aunties of the twins, didn't you bring me chocolate?" They laughed, and Umaisha said, "If it's chocolate, here it is!" Laughing, he ran over, saying, "I love you, my aunties!" They all laughed, and Momy remarked, "You really know how to make him happy."
Unaisha asked, "Momy, where is Zarah? Is she not around? Wallahi, we've been looking for her, she's the one we came to see because we want to go out to visit someone, and we wanted to leave her with some chores, but she wouldn't come out." Momy said, "Now that you're here, you can hang out together until I return. Miswar, go call your Auntie, tell her I said she should come down, I'm waiting for her." Miswar said, "Okay," stood up, and went.
💫💫💫💫💫💫
He entered her room, knocked, and said, "Aunty, Momy says you should come down." Zarah replied, "Okay, go tell her I'm coming." He came out and said, "Momy, she's coming."
As they sat, Zarah walked into the living room, saw them, let out a joyful scream, and exclaimed, "When did you arrive? I didn't even know! Why didn't you let me know?" Umaisha replied, "Sister, we didn't want to disturb you." Zarah said, "Wow, wallahi I am so, so happy!"
Momy said, "Now that you're done celebrating seeing each other, I'm leaving. Zarah, the house is yours, take care of it until I return, and make sure you cook lunch, you young ladies!" They chorused, "Okay, Momy, may Allah protect you and safe return."
💫💫💫💫💫💫
After Momy's departure, the girls got down to work as instructed. They began chatting about school—you know how young girls are, when they get together, teacher gossip is inevitable! They sat chatting until 3:00 PM, then headed to the kitchen to start cooking lunch, each taking on specific tasks. They continued working and chatting until they finished everything right at 5:00 PM, after which they went up to Zarah's room to take a bath.
Page 10
Entering the room, Umaisha took her bath first, followed by Zarah, and Unaisha went last. After changing into fresh clothes, they returned to the living room to eat before Momy returned so they could head home.
Each served herself a portion and they began eating. Once they finished, Unaisha cleared the plates, took them to the kitchen, washed them, and returned to the living room to sit with the others.
Suddenly, they heard the greetings of Momy and Miswar arriving together. They answered the greeting in unison and welcomed her back. Momy said, "Look at that, I've only just returned!" They replied, "Oh Momy, it's no problem at all, we've finished everything, bathed, and eaten."
Momy smiled, "Masha Allah! If I wanted to, I could marry you off right now with no issues!" Umaisha laughed, "Ah Momy, why would you talk about marrying us off right now? Certainly not yet!" Momy said, "Well, nowadays at 23 years old you aren't considered too young for marriage. Back in our day, by 14 to 15 we were already married and living happily!"
Zarah countered, "Well, Momy, that was your time! For us, our time is now, don't you agree, sisters?" The other sisters chorused, "That's right, wallahi..."
