English Translation

"You won't get my consent until you wait for 3 months to pass. I promise you that even if Mom doesn't tell me to return, I will give you permission to come and speak with her. But honestly, for now... Uhm... Uhm... in fact, just give it 2 weeks."

Habeeb sighed, "Alright Leesa, since you've chosen it this way, but I want you to know this is hurting me immensely."

"Well, it's not only hurting you; I am feeling the pain too, I am just enduring it."

"Hum... you're just saying that, Leesa. If missing me hurts you as much, you wouldn't have brought up this condition. So let's drop this topic because continuing it will only upset me."

Haleesa smiled, "More like because you won't accept my condition either."

"That's on you. I know how much you love me; you can't live without me. You'll get tired of this nonsense and come back to me."

"Oh! Since you know that, why bring up the topic at all?"

He closed his eyes as if he wouldn't speak, then stroked his hair, "Because I love you, Leesa. Being away from you could cause me major trouble."

"I love you too, Yaya Habeeb, with a love words cannot describe. But you must know I will not return to you until three months from now."

In short, no matter how much Habeeb tried to easily persuade Haleesa, it failed. She stood her ground, insisting that he must wait out the 3 months if she was to return to his house. In the end, they parted ways on rough terms as he angrily hung up the phone.

Hannah, who was lying beside Haleesa, burst into laughter, "Lovebirds! Is this how you two fight with each other?"

Haleesa hissed, "Mtsww..... Hannah, your Yaya is like hot fire mixed with honey. He will never stop this habit of his of jumping to conclusions and getting angry easily."

Hannah shrugged and said, "Well, he won't stop because it's in his blood."

"Indeed, and it comes with drama," Haleesa said, shrugging her shoulders.

HABEEB

As soon as he finished his call with Haleesa, he felt he should distance himself from her until the deadline she gave him elapsed. The very next day, he packed his bags and migrated to Lagos. Even after landing in Lagos, he didn't reach out to Haleesa, and she didn't reach out to him either. They were both stubbornly angry with each other.

5 days later

Habeeb got tired of playing hard to get and called Haleesa. At that time, she was sitting in the parlor with Hannah while Madam was out—she was always busy because Hannah’s wedding was fast approaching.

The phone rang almost until it disconnected before Haleesa sluggishly picked up and said, "Hello."

"Leesa, are you treating me with contempt just because you know I love you?"

"King of complaints, couldn't you wait for us to exchange greetings before starting to pour out your grievances?"

"Is that what you have to say?"

"Nop... I just thought it was appropriate, but if you don't want my greetings, I'll keep them to myself."

"Well, keep it then, I don't want it. Do you even care about me to want to greet me?"

"Hum... I do care about you."

"If you care about me, why haven't you reached out?"

"Because you were angry with me, and as far as I know, I didn't do anything wrong to you."

He smiled, "Well, I'll take the blame now that I've called you," and he changed the subject by saying, "Leesa, I've missed you so much, I swear I can barely sleep."

Haleesa laughed, "My handsome Don! Is that so? Or are you coming over since Mom is out and only Hannah and I are at home?"

He let out a heavy breath as if he wasn't going to speak, then said, "Look, I've been in Lagos since the day after you upset me; I left Abuja."

"Alright, you did yourself a favor."

Habeeb laughed, "I didn't just do myself a favor, you did yourself one too, because you missed seeing my handsome face."

"Uhm... just like you missed seeing my pretty face too."

"Your statement isn't a lie, Leesa. You are beautiful in both face and character, which is why every time I think of you, I thank God for blessing me with you."

Haleesa sighed while Habeeb continued showering her with sweet, passionate words. Afterward, he informed her that Imaan would be returning tomorrow. Haleesa squealed with joy because she missed Imaan immensely. Hearing her squeal, he said, "Alright, finish your screaming, I'll call you later." Before Haleesa could say anything else, he hung up.

The next day

Maryam arrived in Abuja along with Imaan. Haleesa and Hannah gave her a wonderful welcome, but she couldn't relax; she kept acting timid because she felt shy around Haleesa—especially remembering her past romance with Habeeb, and now she was going to marry Haleesa's relative. With great effort, Haleesa coaxed her into relaxing, and they chatted happily while Hannah teased Maryam by calling her "Haleesa's co-wife, formerly wife to Haleesa's brother." After spending 2 days in Abuja, Maryam returned to Yola.

As for Habeeb and Haleesa, they only communicated via phone calls. Haleesa spent the whole day locked in her room, not coming out to the parlor, busy chatting on the phone of love with Habeeb. Days passed quickly, and Habeeb had already consumed 2 out of the 3 months. Throughout this time, Habeeb did not step foot in Abuja, keeping his promise to himself not to visit where Haleesa was until the 3-month deadline was met.

The time for Hannah's wedding arrived, which caused Madam to gather Haleesa and the others and head to Yola town where the wedding festivities were to take place.

Today was the day of Hannah's kamu. Haleesa and the other chief bridesmaids had heavy makeovers done. She looked stunningly fair—as if you could touch her skin and blood would flow—with a slight, beautiful plumpness that even she was amazed by. The day before the wedding translation (wedding Fatiha), Habeeb landed in Yola. When he called Haleesa to inform her he had arrived, he asked her to cook him a delicious meal so he could come eat later. Frantically, she said, "Please, my handsome Don, please don't come because I don't want Mom to find out there is a relationship between us; she will think I am shameless."

Habeeb grew extremely angry. He felt that everything Haleesa was doing was meant to torment his life, keeping him away from his position as her husband and banning him from visiting her for some nonsense reason. He flared up and said, "Leesa, who do you think you are, huh?! Just because you see I'm crazy about you, do you do whatever you like with me? When the 3 months are up, don't bother returning to my house; continue living with sweetheart and see if I'll die or live!" Without waiting for her response, he disconnected the call.

Haleesa stood frozen with the phone in her hand, not knowing what to do, unable to sit or stand still. Deep down, she loved her husband and desired his love just as he desired hers, especially since it had been two months since they last saw each other.

She rested her chin in her hands, her body growing ice-cold. She wanted to cry, but she was afraid someone would see her and ask why, since the house was full of wedding guests. While in this state, Hannah walked in and patted her shoulder, "What's wrong, Mrs. Lamido? You look like you're in distress."

Haleesa sighed, "It's me and Yaya Habeeb. We just finished talking on the phone. You know how he gets—quick to anger over trivial things, it's enough to make him furious." She went on to recount what happened between them.

Hannah hissed, "By this time, Haleesa, you should endure it, give your husband permission to come see Mom, and return to your home. You should know that all this discipline Mom is putting Yaya Habeeb through is because of you. The moment you say you've withdrawn your condition, she'll immediately agree for you to go back. What purpose does this prolonged stay here serve you? You won't realize you're being foolish until I leave you behind. Mom doesn't just sit at home; you'll be left alone with the housemaid. Obey your husband's command, even if it's for the sake of earning your Paradise! Get up right now, get dressed, and go to your husband. When you get there, cook for him—though I know it's not food he wants; he's just using an excuse to hunt a deer," she finished laughing.

Haleesa tilted her head to one side, "So if it's not food he wants, what does he want, O queen of interpretation?"

Hannah laughed, "Oh! I don't know either, but I'm sure the answer to that question is with your handsome Don."

"Mtcww...." Haleesa hissed, "You've become a real bad girl, I swear, you've gone wild even before we take you to Mus'ab's house."

Hannah burst into laughter again.

Haleesa grabbed her hand, "Hannah, please stop laughing and find me a solution."

Hannah rolled her eyeballs, "There is only one solution: get up, let's go, I'll drop you off at his place so you two can figure things out yourselves."

Haleesa widened her eyes, "What! Go behind someone's back to steal? Seriously Hannah, I can't do it. You want Mom to find out and look at me as a shameless and brazen girl?"

Hannah shot her a glare, "Every time you open your mouth, you talk about shyness. Tell me, isn't Yaya Habeeb your husband? And does going to visit him go against your Creator?"

Softly, Haleesa shook her head. Hannah plunged her deeper into confusion, "Stop overthinking, let's go," she cut off her hesitation.

Haleesa stood up, "But Hannah, how do you expect me to leave this house and return without her knowing? Look, I even asked her earlier if I could go visit Ammi, and she told me to wait until your wedding festivities are over."

Hannah said, "Don't worry, I know what to do so you can return before Mom even realizes you left."

Haleesa nodded and headed to her trolley. She pulled out a red Swiss lace dress and skirt with white touches, took off her current clothes, and put on the lace. She made the top tight, especially around her chest. She turned to Hannah and said, "Hannah, look at how full my chest is; this weight gain is starting to bother me," she finished speaking with a grimace.

Hannah burst out laughing, "Girl, you've hit the jackpot."

Haleesa hissed, "What kind of jackpot? Just swelling up like flour!" As she spoke, she sprayed perfume, grabbed her white veil, and said, "I'm ready, let's go, right?"

Hannah said, "Yeap!" and walked ahead with Haleesa following closely. They headed directly to the parking lot. Hannah called out to Sa'eed the driver, and Sa'eed rushed over, "Whose car keys do you have?"

"It's the Kia Cerato's."

"Okay, give me the key."

He pulled the key from his pocket and handed it to her. She took it and headed to the car. Haleesa opened the door and got in. Hannah unlocked the car, started it, and drove toward the gate. The gatemaker opened the gate, and they drove out.

Hannah turned to look at Haleesa and said, "Tomorrow, insha Allah, I will follow your footsteps too; you won't catch me acting all timid anymore," she finished speaking, twisting her mouth.

Haleesa shrugged and said, "May God guide you, Hannah. I've never seen a bride as eager for marriage as you." Before Hannah could reply, Haleesa's phone rang.

Sluggishly, she opened her purse and pulled out the phone. Seeing who was calling made her release a soft smile. She answered the call, put it to her ear, and remained silent with a smile.

HABEEB

Habeeb was lounging in his parlor with the phone pressed to his ear. Hearing Haleesa stay silent without speaking made him put his anger aside. He said, "Leesa, I am angry. Instead of calling me to apologize, you show me an attitude of indifference?"

"Huh.... Yaya Habeeb, what wrong did I do to you that I should apologize?"

Right at that moment, Hannah arrived at the house gate and honked. It took a full 3 minutes before the gate opened and they drove in, while Haleesa continued her call with Habeeb.

Hannah parked. Haleesa opened the door, pulled the phone from her ear, and whispered softly so Habeeb wouldn't hear what she was about to say, "What time will you come pick me up?"

Without speaking, Hannah held up three fingers.

"3 o'clock?" Haleesa uttered.

Hannah nodded. Haleesa turned and headed inside the house while Hannah drove off.

She walked straight to Habeeb's parlor while keeping him on the line. Slowly, she pushed the door open; fortunately, it unlocked. She peeked and saw Habeeb lounging with the phone to his ear. She ended the call, tucked her phone into her purse, and crept stealthily into the parlor. Slipping behind the sofa, she crouched and covered Habeeb's face.

Startled, Habeeb thrashed to pull her hands away from his face, forcefully yanking her so hard that she tumbled onto the couch. She let out a startled scream and hit him with her handbag, "Ouch! Yaya Habeeb, are you trying to break me? With a pull like that, I swear I almost got a sprain!"

With a sly smile on his face, he turned to face her, grabbed her hands, took the purse from her, and tossed it onto a nearby sofa. He took a breath, looking at her from under his eyelids, "What did you come here for after you banned me from visiting you?"

"Oh! Is that what you have to say? Well, I thought that wasn't the question you should be asking me," she finished speaking while jerking her hands away, attempting to stand up. With force, he pulled her back down, rested his head on her lap, and said, "I was extremely surprised to see you, Leesa, because the call I made to you earlier was a farewell call. I had resolved that tomorrow, as soon as Hannah's wedding Fatiha was done, I would return to Lagos and from there fly off to Canada—you wouldn't see me again until you sought me out yourself."

Haleesa rolled her eyes, "Well, good for you because I wasn't going to look for you."

"I know you can do it, Leesa, because you don't care about me, which is why I always thank God for saving me from wayward women," he finished speaking as if he were about to cry.

Pity washed over Haleesa. She herself knew Habeeb was among the rare men who cared little for women; they weren't his priority—he was only focused on making money. Gently, she stroked his hair and said in a soft voice, "I'm sorry, my handsome Don. I know I hurt you, but you need to be fair to me and remember the terrible abuse you used to subject me to until..." Quickly, he covered her mouth.

"Don't turn back the hands of the clock, Leesa. What's in the past shouldn't be brought back up. You must know that right now I love you like my very breath. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE in my heart; apart from you, I've shut the door to anyone else."

She smiled, filled with joy at his sweet words. They began chatting happily, but soon the mood of the conversation shifted abruptly. He picked her up and carried her into his bedroom. Truly, Haleesa believed she was the only one in Habeeb Lamido's heart because of the passionate words he showered her with.

After everything happened, Haleesa stood in front of the mirror, drying her hair with a hand dryer. Habeeb came out of the bathroom, walked right up to her, took the hand dryer from her, and continued drying her hair. "Look at how chubby you've become, Leesa, especially right here," he said, stroking her chest with one hand while half-closing his eyes.

Through the mirror, she shot him a glare, "Well, that trait is in your blood; every woman who marries you becomes fat! Though I pray I don't reach this woman's size," she finished speaking with a grimace.

Habeeb laughed, turned off the hand dryer, set it aside on the dresser, and turned Haleesa around so they were facing each other. "Turns out I'm not the only one jealous of a spouse—you are too."

She pushed him away, walked to the wardrobe, pulled out his black long-sleeve shirt, gathered her inner wear, and went into the bathroom. She changed into the clothes and came out. Habeeb was standing in just a white vest and boxers, his arms crossed over his chest, looking at her with deep love and affection. "Let me ask you a question, Leesa."

She raised an eyebrow and said, "Yeap!"

He lowered his arms, took her hand, and they walked toward the exit door. Right by her ear, he whispered, "When are you going to start wearing clothes in front of me?"

She ignored him as if she hadn't heard what he said. They moved to the parlor where Habeeb lay down on the 3-seater sofa and pulled her onto his lap. "This time, if I ask you a question, don't ignore me."

She pouted, "And if your question doesn't require an answer, you should know I might not give one."

He drew a breath and raised an eyebrow, "Whether it requires one or not, you must find an answer: When are you coming back to me?"

"Huh.... So that was your question?"

"You should answer me first before asking your own."

Haleesa smiled and said, "Once Hannah's wedding is over, you can go see Mom. I agree to return to you..."

(I'm sick, really need your prayers 😪)

NI DA YAYA HABEEB ❣ The sweetest love ❣ By Hauwa Shehu Aliyu 🌹

98

Hurray up today is your birthday, Autar Hajiya. In my heart, I make wishes for you to have peace & a successful life. Happy birthday once again, my Auta!

Habeeb let out a shout of joy and hugged her tightly as if he wanted to tuck her into his chest. He kept planting kisses all over her face down to her neck, muah... muah... I love you Leesa.... I really, so much love you Leesa.... This day remained one of the days he would never forget in his life. Haleesa smiled and said, "Ease up on this tight squeeze you're giving me, or in your excitement you'll break my chest."

He tugged at the tip of her nose, loosened his grip, and began stroking her stomach with half-closed eyes. Leesa... he called her name.

"Uhm..." she replied.

"When are you going to give me a baby?"

She shrugged, "Go find someone else to get pregnant for you!"

He pinched her, and she let out a yelp, "Washh..." she said, rubbing her belly. "You're really a monster, Yaya Habeeb, always doing wicked things."

"I have to be wicked to you, Leesa, because you have a thick skull. I told you I hate it when you keep bringing up past things, as if you haven't forgiven me."

"But I was just repeating what you said," she finished, twisting her mouth.

"That's why I said I don't want it, so stop doing it unless you want us to fight."

"Alright, I've stopped." She buried her nose in his chest, inhaling the scent of his perfume.

He lifted her head, looking deep into her eyes with a laugh, "What's wrong, Leesa?"

"I swear, Yaya Habeeb, the scent of your perfume is so nice I never want to stop breathing it in."

Habeeb burst out laughing, stroking her hair, "Leesa is so troublesome."

Haleesa laughed, "Which Yaya Habeeb are you referring to?"

He shot her a glare, "Me! Do you have another Yaya Habeeb?"

She pecked him on the cheek, "You are the only one, there is no one else."

Joy washed over Habeeb, and teasingly he said, "Well, I thought you were going to call the name of that guy..."

She tilted her head, "That guy has become the past; you are the present. Therefore, stop talking about him, unless you want to pray for him—I won't stop you from doing that."

Habeeb gave a wry, half-smile. Haleesa pouted, "Or can't you even pray for him?"

"Am I not big enough to say I won't pray for him?" he said, trying to push her off his body. Haleesa stood up on her own, stretched, looked at Habeeb, and said, "Leesa is hungry, you know."

She jumped to her feet, "Give me 15 minutes to cook something for you to eat!"

He stood up too, "Let me walk you there," and she walked ahead while he followed behind her.

20 minutes later

Haleesa finished making jollof macaroni and fish pepper soup, serving it in a food flask. Habeeb helped her carry the food flask while she brought the plates. They sat down on the rug carpet in the middle of the room, and she served him.

He kept shaking his head, "Honestly Leesa, you know how to cook. Your food tastes completely different from other women's."

Haleesa burst into laughter, picked up the food flask lid, and fanned herself, "Let me shield myself before your over-praise overwhelms me and you assign me more chores."

He set his spoon down and made a face, "I'm just appreciating the food, not trying to exploit you."

She laughed even harder. He continued eating, then looked up at Haleesa who was busy laughing at him. He shot her a glare, "If you don't stop laughing at me, I'm going to squeeze that little mouth of yours that's laughing."

She covered her mouth with her hands while continuing to chuckle quietly. After they finished eating, Haleesa sat on the 3-seater sofa, looked at Habeeb, and said, "My handsome Don, come give me a massage, my whole body feels sore."

He smiled, shook his head without replying, walked over to the sofa where she was lying, and began massaging her body. Slowly, she closed her eyes, and within a very short time, sleep overtook her.

Seeing that she had fallen asleep, Habeeb propped his chin on his hand and stared at her. He took her hand, admiring the henna patterns on it. He spent a long time like that until he noticed the time for Zuhr prayer had arrived. He began waking her up by blowing gentle breaths into her ear.

Slowly, she opened her eyes, resting them on his face. He flashed a soft smile and raised an eyebrow, "Get up, let's pray, sleepyhead."

She sat up with a grimace. Habeeb walked into the bedroom, and sluggishly she followed behind him. She put away her things, folded the long-sleeve shirt he had taken off, and placed it back into the wardrobe.

Habeeb came out of the bathroom and playfully flicked the remaining ablution water from his hands onto her. Pouting cutely, she turned and walked into the bathroom after...
